The Kentucky Mesonet Consortium

The Kentucky Mesonet Consortium is a statewide entity formed to leverage the value of the Mesonet for the benefit of the citizens of Kentucky. It is dedicated to promoting education outreach, delivering public service, and facilitating both basic and applied research. All eight public universities of Kentucky have joined the Consortium.

Some key activities of the Consortium are:

Data and Information Access: The Consortium will actively support open exchange of data, information, and knowledge among its partners and the public concerning atmospheric and hydrologic conditions as observed by on-site sensors in weather stations across Kentucky.

Education: The Consortium will bring quality near real-time environmental data to formal and informal educational curricula at all levels. Classroom in Kentucky will have near real-time access through the Internet. The Consortium will encourage and publicize scholarship, fellowship, and internship opportunities for Kentucky's secondary and postsecondary students.

Research: The Consortium will provide high quality data to discover, understand, and solve pressing environmental and societal problems in Kentucky.

Outreach and Technology Transfer: The Consortium will provide a framework for distribution and sharing of software tools developed by Kentucky Mesonet Consortium members for other members, state and local government entities, and for private companies. It will also provide necessary training for the user groups.
